Part I
For this post, I chose the acrylic project and the text art project.
Acrylic Painting-
I Create Original Art
1. I used my own unique ideas in this piece of work because since that painting had been originally two other things, when I was actually in the process of painting it, I was just painting as I went along with no prior plan for it.
2. No, I didn't use a source for my inspiration of the background, I was just trying to cover the grey that I had painted underneath. As for the quote, I got my inspiration from a song by Casting Crowns called "Praise You In This Storm" and the quote that I chose, " I will praise you in this storm" is from the chorus which inspired me for this painting because there were colors exploding on the corners of the canvas and the center was just purple and calm like the eye of a storm.
I Developed My Art Making Skills
1. While I was writing the quote, I learned to stick with longer haired-brushes and then twist the ends into the paint to get better and sharper edges for the lettering.
2.Prior to this painting, I hadn't ever really been a fan of writing words using paint. So right off the bat I knew it would be a challenge when I got to the quote part of my project. As I worked through writing the quote, I do believe I gained the skill to be able to paint words pretty well.
Text Art-
I Create Original Art
1. I used my own unique ideas for this piece of art through using my church logo and portraying it through small, cut out pictures of my youth group. Then, I personalized it by writing out "Student Ministry" using the names of everyone in the youth group.
2. What inspired me was that our youth pastor had announced that he was renouncing his position in the church to pursue his dreams of being an overseas missionary, or just a missionary in general, and so I was really moved towards making something in honor of him and his faithful service of 30 years at the church.
I Communicate Through My Work
1. My artwork is intended to make the person viewing it see how united and family-like my youth group is. using all the pictures I think it really tells a story of how a group of students and adults coming together and really connecting results in tons of amazing memories and experiences.
2. An issue I am examining through my work would be the stereotypical idea that students and adults can't get along well. Nowadays in society, teens are viewed as rebellious, out of control, and disrespectful people that could never get along with adults, I believe this piece of word defies those odds.
3. This artwork is about who I am because a huge part of my life has been pouring into the youth group. I spend a lot of my time helping out at events or planning things out with the leaders. This artwork doesn't just represent the youth groups memories, but mine as well.
Part II
Do Over
If given the opportunity, I wouldn't do over either of these projects. However, I would change something about my text art project. When I wrote the names to spell out "Student Ministry," I only used first names with the last name initial. If I could do it over, I would use first and last names to personalize it even more than I did. I realized I should have done this when I got to names with the same first name and last name initial which made me wonder how my youth pastor would be able to tell those people apart and remember who they are.
